    Question

    hi,

is there a list of two blade s8 projectors on the web, please - i think most 8mm projectors have 3 shutter blades, but i'd quite like to experiment with a two blade projector?

    thanks,

    ric

As far as I know, there are none that came that way from the factory. A two bladed machine would have to be 24 FPS only, because it would visibly flicker at 18. This would specialise it for running commercial prints, since most amateur footage was/is shot at 18 FPS.

The machines I know of that are two bladed were modified aftermarket, and the reason they were is for added brightness (more shutter "open" time per frame.)

Most commonly this mod is found on the high end projectors where even a multi-hundred watt lamp is too little to light up a really big screen. I project 52" high with a 100W lamp and it's plenty bright, so I'm not even tempted.

For telecine transfer, there are a couple of 5 bladed machines, but they are rare beasts and much in demand.
